Ami Anne | The Shack seems like it takes forever to get into. I put it down after a good try. People tell me it is life changing. Anyone read it? What were your experiences?------------------ Passion, Lust, Desire. Check out my journal http://www.mychristianpsychic.com/

Love&Light | Was thinking of getting it for the office Library. Some opinions would be really fine. |
RegardesPlatero | I've heard of it, but haven't read it. Apparently, God is an African-American woman in that story. That sounds really interesting. |
Ami Anne | I am going to force myself to read it, as people say it is life changing. ------------------ Passion, Lust, Desire. Check out my journal http://www.mychristianpsychic.com/

RegardesPlatero | @ Ami what makes it hard to get into? (I haven't read it, but a lot of people that I know like it, so I'm curious; hope I'm not being nosy or making you uncomfortable). |

Well, it is just boring mundane details for the first 3 chapters like "I took out my wash and hung it on the line"
I kind of vowed to myself, after graduate school with all it's meaningless drivel, that I would never struggle with a book again. However, people say this has changed their lives, so after I finish my current book, I will force myself to read this. I will come back and tell you what I think

what book are you currently reading? me, I have a bad, bad habit of going back and forth between books; I can never read just one book at a time

I take it from your icon that it's not your favorite book in the world? :-P (Out of curiosity, what is your favorite fiction book/what kind of books do you like to read, since we're talking about books?) |
Ami Anne | I have the icon there as people say it is a salacious book. To me, it is not very salacious. My all time favorite book and the one I credit with my search for God is 'The Stand" by Stephen King. He is my all time favorite author. I have read everything up to 'Misery" when he started to get too commercialized imo What is your favorite book, RP? ------------------ Passion, Lust, Desire. Diplopoda | I have not read the shack. How was it? |
Randall | You should have watched Under The Dome. |
Randall | Did you read that one? |
aquaguy91 | It's amazing! One of my favorite books. I really hope they make a movie out of it. |
Randall | I would watch the movie. |
JustAmanda1216 | Ami Anne, I have read The Shack and as I cannot say it changed my life per se, it is a very good read. However, it was highly emotional for me and that part had nothing to do with the main character seeing/hearing/being with God and the Trinity, it was what the main character WENT through that brought him to the shack in the first place. THAT part bothered me greatly and actually when I think about it, still does. Without giving away the plot, what happens to this main characters family, has been my greatest fear in life since the birth of my children...so reading something so realistic, grabbed me by my heart and wouldn't let go till the end. Which, the ending completely threw me as I didn't see it coming AT ALL. SO! I highly recommend you give it another chance, it was hard for me to get into it too but once I did, I couldn't put it down. I think I read it in 2 days. Oh and I want to mention that I LOVE The Stand! I read it not long after it was published and I was in middle school. Now, THAT book I feel did make an impact on my life, as it really opened my eyes to the world you know? It made me wiser to the fact of anything is possible...

aquaguy91 | The Movie is in development! Can't wait to see it! |
Randall | Might watch it. |
aquaguy91 | It should be a great movie. The book was really amazing. If they do the book any justice with the movie it will be a box office hit. |
Randall | I'll wait for the movie. |
Astro keen | I've read it too, on the recommendation of a friend who found it life-changing. I've read a lot (by virtue of having been around longer than most) so am less prone to being impressed. Or its message was not timely for me, as such. The book is charming and very interesting. It grapples with the notion of forgiving one's enemies, however heinous the crime, in a very interesting way. I was impressed but not deeply moved. I can see why people might have found it life-changing. The thing is that there are so many books out there which can bring you important messages. I do believe that when you encounter the one you need, it has a deeper impact. |
Randall | Yeah, The Celestine Prophecy also was life-changing for many, but I found it rather uninspiring and simplistic. |
Astro keen | The Celestine Prophecy life changing? The mind boggles |
Astro keen | My most recent impressive read was: 'Enlightenment Ain't What It's Cracked Up To Be' by Dr Robert Forman. He explains it succinctly here .. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KOMQ_7NzSBI |
